    New research into how ageing might be prevented - and the ethics

    Scientists are making breakthroughs in their understanding of what makes animals less vigorous and healthy as they get older. In a recent Guardian column on this research into ageing, George Monbiot feared that the development of therapies could create a new underclass who would serve a new long-lived elite.     Dr David Clancy is a researcher into the biochemical and genetic processes that cause ageing, and is one of the signatories of this letter in response.

    At Leeds Cafe Sci on Sept 9th Dr Clancy will set out the latest research; and will invite a discussion on the ethics of anti-ageing therapies. For those who want to stay young forever, could there be downsides?
